Minutes from NVCA meeting
Held at Boars Head, Newchurch
13th September 2018

Present:- Peter Fell, Ron Suthers, Shirley Suthers, Jo Blair, Iain Blair,
Natalie Ashworth, Margaret Ashworth, Janet Meleleu, Julia Barrow, Danny Allen,
Cherry Hughes, Penny King and Simone Cudworth.

•  2 Ian confirmed that all present were full members and so able to vote.

•  3 The minutes of the 2017 AGM meeting were approved

•  4 Simone presented the chairperson’s report.

•  5 Iain to bring audited accounts for 2017/18 to next meeting.

•  6. As at 12/09/18 the Association’s account held £1711.57. (£306.17 raised at the Kirk Fair will be added to this.)

•  7. Election of Officers

Simone resigned as chairperson to focus required attention on Staghills’ Play Area Project. She was thanked for her continued hard work and dedication.

The following people were proposed for Committee positions and were all seconded by Peter.

It was agreed that meetings in 2018/19 would be held every 2 months (approximately) on a Monday evening at 7pm in the Boars Head. Continued thanks to Boars Head for hosting the meetings.

•  Item Arising from Regular NVCA Meeting.

2. Minutes of previous meeting were agreed.

3. Natalie suggested that we reflect on what worked well and not so well at the Kirk Fair to identify improvements for next year. Agreed that this would be an item for the next meeting.
ACTION ALL: Please email comments to Cherry with any proposals for improvements.

4.  Community Garden – Simone suggested that we buy 2 benches from Kingfisher Direct via the Council (avoids VAT) using money received from the Mayor’s Fund and making up shortfall from NVCA funds. It was agreed that the benches would be bolted in the current recess areas at the top of the Garden. In addition, it was decided to consider purchasing further benches for the bottom garden at a later date.

5.  Staghills’ Play Area – Simone confirmed that the Project has received £13,702 and Proffitts have agreed to steer the Project. A consultation process with local schools/churches etc. needs to be conducted by Christmas. Total cost likely to be £100,000 and two further funding streams have been identified. Simone confirmed that equipment suitable for disabled access will be included.

6.  Planning – Iain outlined that he is investigating how the Association can be reconstituted to enable us to place a bid for the land at the back of the Boars Head. Margaret suggested Paul Fielding may be able to offer legal advice.

7.  Poppies – 34 poppies (at least) will be put up along Newchurch Road/Church Street and down in to Waterfoot. Simone has arranged for brownies/guides to help with writing transcripts to be laminated on to poppies.
ACTION: Natalie agreed to contact Christine Moffat regarding possible poppy order extension and to ask if help was required with installation.
ACTION: Cherry to forward knitted poppy instructions to Danny to share with NVCA members

8. ANY OTHER BUSINESS:

Bellringing – continued plea for volunteer bellringers at St. Nicholas.
ACTION: interested volunteers to contact Penny

Advertising regular events on NVCA web site - Danny suggested that regular events happening in and around Newchurch should be put on the web site. Examples - singing group, the over 55s, the orienteering meets, rainbows and brownies, coffee mornings etc.
ACTION - All to inform Danny of details of any regular local events (what it is, when, where, who to contact) then the web site to be updated.

Welcome to Newchurch’ Boulder – Rachael has received a quote from Ken Howe and has agreed to search for grants. Further local stone merchants were suggested.
ACTION: Natalie agreed to liaise with Rachael.

Events –

September 29th at 2pm Macmillan Coffee afternoon at Boars Head
